Ficlets

Teenage Dictionary: The Twilight Edition (Yep, I went there.)

Here are some new words and phrases that have been added into the English vernacular. They are all centered on The Twilight Saga by Stephenie Meyer. I have heard each one firsthand from my students.

1. OME /Oh my Edward!: In place of “OMG/Oh my God!” or “Oh my goodness.” This Edward, a fictional character from Twilight, is apparently so beloved by girls that they’ve developed their very own phrase for him.
e.g. OME , there’s a new trailer for the “Twilight” film!

2. vamptastic: In place of “fantastic.”
e.g. I can just tell today’s going to be a vamptastic day.

3. Cullenesque: Used to describe anything or anyone cool, though usually I’ve heard it to describe boys.
e.g. OME , that new guy is totally Cullenesque, with that crooked smile and all.

4. I am Switzerland: Taken from a famous line from Eclipse where Bella says: “When it comes to all this enemies nonsense, I’m out. I am a neutral country. I am Switzerland. I refuse to be affected by territorial disputes between mythical creatures.”
