The Queen's Return

Carol woke suddenly; breathing heavily. As she began to calm herself down she became aware that there was someone sitting on the foot of her bed.

"Dan?" she asked quietly. But then she remembered he was in Baltimore. He would be gone for another week.

She recoiled in her bed, pulling the sheets tightly against her body. “Who are you?”

The figure silently shifted on the bed. It waved a hand towards the ceiling light.

Suddenly the light turned on, forcing Carol to shield her eyes against it. As she slowly moved her hand down she gasped.

It was a woman. A naked woman, with blue skin except for a white stripe running across her face.

“I’m sorry to disturb you my queen, but it is time for you to come home.” The woman’s voice was soft, angelic.

“What are you talking about? Please just leave. I promise I won-”

She strange woman slowly shook her head. “I’m sorry your highness, but there is not time.” Again she waved her hand in the air and they were gone.

A week later Dan arrived home to an empty house.
