Reunions

I shook involuntarily. It was the first time Jacob had seen me since…But, it was like I told him before, he was just Jacob, and I was just Bella.
So why was he growling at me?
“Jake,” I whispered, angry tears coming to my eyes. “I’m still Bella.” I hoped that he would calm down enough to change back into his human form. Even though I knew what he’d say when he did.
I’d spent months trying to prepare for this, for his inevitably sharp words that would hurt me, even if nothing else could. Edward had warned me about trying to find Jacob Black. He knew that I still loved him. He knew that Jake made me furious by not showing up at the wedding.
But, here I was, trying again.
I reached out my hand slowly to stroke his brown muzzle and he snapped at me.
Ashamed, I turned my face away, my fingers narrowly escaping his teeth. “I’m not sorry I did this, Jake. I’d just hoped that the rainy days spent in your garage, and lifetimes of servitude in exchange for sweethearts meant something. So, goodbye.” I muttered.
