A Jerk

He walked some more and stopped. “Close your eyes.â€? he said.

“No thanks.â€? I replied but his hand covered my face. “Jerk.â€? I murmured.

“Okay, you can open.â€? I looked to see an ugly, green van parked in the trees. We were in the back forest. Strange, I was sure we were heading the other way.

The van type thing reminded me of That 70’s Show, the van Kelso had but that wasn’t important. What was important was that James was showing me this unattractive sight for some reason. James broke off my thoughts. “Yeah, I used to have a sweet pick-up but my ex crashed it on a beach. My dad gave me this beauty. It’s a classic.â€? I coughed to hide my laugh. “Nice.â€?

“Okay, well you showed it to me. Now, put me down.â€? He dumped me on the ground and I fell at his feet, catching myself with my hands. “That’s not what I meant. Why are you such a jerk?â€?

“Hmm … why am I a jerk?” He was mocking me now and I got up to slap him. “Hey!” He grabbed my hand but didn’t let go.

“I’m serious, James. Quit messing with me.”
