The Golden Ticket

Faith stared unbelieving at the lottery ticket in her hand. Her first wish had been granted. She felt it. She knew it.

The glittering billboard glistened in the setting sun. It’s words carved out in gold coins.

JackPot Lotto $140 Million Dollars.

She scoffed to herself. The drawing had taken place the evening before, there was no way she could win.

She tucked the frayed ticket in her pocket with barely a glance and headed home.

As the evening wore on she turned on the television. The 9 o’clock news was a buzz.

Someone had won the lottery. The 140 million clams. The ticket had yet to surface. The announcers speculated. The deadline was fast approaching.

Scoffing to herself she pulled out the frayed ticket she had picked up that evening.

The numbers matched. Exactly.
