F&F chapter 1 part 4
As a year had past after her sister’s marriage to Lucas, Lorreigh was beginning to wonder if there was to be any man in Brighton for her, for she knew most of them.
Caroline Peters, Lorreigh’s mother, tried so hard to join Lorreigh with the Peake’s younger son and Lucas’ brother, George. A quiet, loyal man with pleasing, though somewhat regular features did not immediately grab Lorreigh’s attention, but the two eventually formed a friendship. When Mrs. Peters saw that their attraction was nothing but friendly, she began to lose hope in her plans to marry off her daughter, but regained it all when she first met Lucas. George’s older brother stepped into appearance after returning from business in London and made Mrs. Peters all too obliging when he asked for the hand of her older daughter, leaving her too wrapped up in wedding affairs to pry into the younger daughter’s love life. [In all fairness, at sixteen years of age Lorreigh thought little of love and marriage.]
