Running
“How could you? How could you call the cops on Trey when it was your pot?â? I asked James.
“It’s a rough business.â? He shrugged.
“Your business! So you admit that you called?!â?
“Yeah. Now come on.â? Come on? What’s that? His catch phrase?
“To where?â?
“You gotta do me a favor before I do one for you.â? I took a step back as he took one toward me.
“James, Trey is your friend. How could you?â? He ignored me. Maybe it was obvious I was trying to change the subject.
“You can run if you like.â?
“What?!â? I asked, shocked.
“Cat and mouse is always fun.â?
And I just couldn’t believe him. I could either stay, let him do whatever or run and try not to let him catch me. Either way he wins. I glared at him in horror. “You’re an asshole!â? but I took off running. I headed to the only place I could think of; the coffeehouse. I ran toward the back rooms but Sheryl stopped me.
“You’re not working today.â? Sheryl told me.
Out of breath, I gasped, “Next guy that comes in here, stall him.â? I knew it would be James.
