The Hellfire Caves were a lot less exciting than they sound. A local tourist attraction that’s never attracted that many tourists. It’s probably entirely funded by the school trips from the surrounding countryside that are an annual event on most local Headmasters calenders.

It had been several years since our last school trip there and I was interested in going to see them. The most exciting thing about the caves is that they used to be the meeting place for The Hellfire Club, which even in itself isn’t that exciting.

The Hellfire club inspired a Supervillian club in the Marvel Comics universe and, in turn, a parody in the form of The Hellfish Club in an episode of The Simpson’s.

This is enough to make me want to visit them again and feel a closer connection to these franchises. I thought that it would be an activity that would last a few hours, we’d probably get bored by about mid-afternoon and go home.

Unfortunately we found something incredibly interesting in those caves, and we never went home.
