Cross Gender Challenge: Excuses Men Offer

He was late again. I wondered what his excuse would be this time. Flat tire? Ran over a squirrel? Picking up dry cleaning? Affair with his co-worker?

I was getting tired of the excuses. Tired of him if I was being honest with myself. Maybe we put things into motion too soon. Talked about the future and rings and children. I don’t even recall who brought up the subjects first, but he went along with it.
He said he loved me first.
I heard his car pull up in my driveway, stole a quick glance in the mirror to make sure I was presentable.

“Sorry I’m late babe, I think I may have run over a platypus”.

Yeah.. that was my reaction too. Silence.
“We need to talk Rionn”, I said.

“About what?”, he said. He could be so dense sometimes.
“Us,” I responded.
“What about us?,” he asked.
“All your lies and excuses. Are you having an affair? Be honest with me. Did you really run over a platypus?”

“No,” he said.
“I thought not,” I said sarcastically.
“I think it was another squirrel.”
“That’s what I thought. Goodbye Rionn.”
