He smiled and yelled to the girl behind the counter, “¡Necesito, dos croquetas y una colada para la gringa, Mariana!â€? A couple at a table nearby giggled. She figured they had to be laughing at her.

Nevertheless, Juan paid them no attention; instead, he sat down with her. “No worry, I, no speak English, too well.â€?

Sara’s legs started shaking, this was the first time he had sat down with her. Maybe he finally realized she liked him. He then held out his hand as if to shake hands with her and introduce himself. Sara wiped her palm on her shirt and extended her hand out to him. Unexpectedly, he brought it up to his lips and gently kissed her hand. Their eyes met for a moment.

“Juan, esta listo,â€? yelled Mariana from behind the counter. Juan gently let go of Sara’s hand and left.
