Listening
James answered Jack. “Slow down there man. You were me almost a week ago. You were hurting her. You … just didn’t have the money.â? His smirk returned.
“Yeah well, I gave that up. Now get your hands off her.â? Jack’s voice was calm but I could tell he was seconds from losing it.
“What are you gonna do?â? James challenged.
“I’ll make you a deal.â? Yeah, deal is one word James can relate to.
“I’m listening.â?
Jack sighed loudly. “Well, if you let her go now and never bother her again, I … won’t bail Trey out.â? James pondered that silently but I felt like screaming. Not bail him out?! Just let him rot away?!
“Okay.â? James agreed, letting me go. To me, he said, “Go ahead. I know you wanna visit him but it will be the worst mistake you’ve made in your life. But go ahead and ruin your summer.â? Yeah whatever, James. Whatever.
I ran from them as fast as possible, heading to see Trey. This was what I’ve been waiting for. This should answer all my questions. This should solve it all.
Hopefully.
