a cut worth a thousand words
I will never forget that moment. One second – that’s all it took. I remember it to this day. I was in my basement carving a masterpiece. It was made of candle wax. My perfect little carving. I was attempting to carve a wondrous bird flying gracefully through the air to represent strength and beauty. It didn’t work like I had hoped. Just as I was about to finish the strong framed beak, that’s when it happened. It didn’t hurt….
I dropped the knife….....all I saw was blood. Blood on my hand – covered, my pants – stained. It sliced me open like a butcher knife on butter, only it was an Exacto knife on my flesh. “mmoomm” I yelled. As she came down I saw the look of horror on her face. She knew what had happened. She could tell from my voice. All I could do was hold my hand to stop the bleeding. Squeeze it until I couldn’t feel anything in both hands… mom took one look ” Were gong to the emergency room” she said calmly. She did a good job hiding all the fear. But I could still see the pain in her eyes.
