A worried mother

I trudged home. The sun shining low in the sky. Ben, the boy with the purple eyes. I laughed to myself thinking of the weird stranger. I swore he was crazy, but also very kind.
“Kirsten!” I sped up my pace as I heard my mother’s voice. I spotted her standing in front of our yellow house, her hands on her hips. She was tall, where I was on the shorter side like my father. “Where on earth have you been?” She asked when she saw me. “I came home from work and you were gone!”
“I went to say good-bye to Oliver at the airport, then I decided to go for a walk” I replied calmly. She gave me a look like I had stolen her precious diamond jewelry.
“Well, I would’ve liked to have gotten a note,” She spoke sharply. I tried to smile. She walked forward and swung her arm around me.
“I know your upset honey. I’m worried about you,” She whispered. I looked up at her.
“What did you think I went to do suicide?” I asked joking. But her face went white.
“Your going through a rough time hun, I just want you to be ok,”
