I can totally empathize with poor Alex. That was me, some years ago. As far as the writing goes, I did find the point of view to be a little unclear. Particularly here:
“Ha. I’m just … not hungry.â? Chloe lied. Huh? Not hungry? That’s something I probably shouldn’t ask about Alex thought to himself.
The verb “lied” implies that we’re in Chloe’s head, but then the italicized thoughs that follow are clearly Alex’s. I’d encourage you to be strict about sticking in one person’s head.
