Shady Deaths Occur in Inclement Weather Too (Deduction challenge)
“Detective! I’m so glad you’ve made it!” The police chief greeted me. I nodded, but bundled so closely in my scarf he didn’t see. But that’s what I was here for; to find other things he didn’t see.
“Victim is an elderly male, in good health according to his wife. He went out to milk the cow this morning and never came back in. His wife found him in the snow at the barn door.”
The man was lying on his face, there was a good sized hole in his back and stains on his coat.
“That’s not a bullet wound, Detective, nor a knife wound. That’s why I called you. I think it looks like a horn. The wife says they don’t have a bull.”
There did appear to be a conical shape to the wound, but no hoof prints, only careless officer prints trampling the snow all around the body. The wind whipped my scarf into my eyes and I tilted my head back to grab it off. As I did the case was solved.
“Chief, this is classic accidental death.”
“How’s that?!”
I pointed up. “Those are the largest icicles I’ve ever seen.”
He jumped back.
