Born in Hell: Chapter 13, Sneaking Out
Sneaking out
I ran down the street, my footsteps echoed in the midnight silence. The cold breeze burned my back. I slowed at his house and swiftly ran through the narrow section between the houses, and ended up in what little of a backyard they had.
I had been to C.J.’s house enough to know my way around. He was alone tonight, his dad leaving to work as a security guard at the warehouses outside of the city limits.
I knocked on the back door. No answer. I knocked harder and heard heavy footsteps from the floor above. And then coming down the stairs. Now, he was in view through the kitchen. He saw me in the dark, my face probably in so much pain, it caused him to run to the door. He unlatched the two locks and flung the door open.
“Embry?” His voice was shocked. “What’s going on? Are you alright?” It was then that I realized I was crying.
He quieted as I tried to find my voice. ”..Embry?”
“I have to show you something.”
