A Night in the Bubble
“I’m going for some chocolate,” Cricket said, opening the door and grabbing his jacket. “Don’t move. Or else.”
We both didn’t inquire about what the ‘or else’ would be. Hold on, did he just say chocolate? Two things sprung into my mind.
Normal Xiaoli was saying : “Can I have some too?”
And ninja Xiaoli was saying : “This guy is bipolar!”
But none came out my mouth. I just curled up in my bubble, feeling abandoned, hungry and dejected. I didn’t want to spend the night with an irritable Spoon Ninja.
“So…are you hungry too, or is it just me?” Lin’s voice sounded small and squeaky, for a change.
“I’m starving,” I replied, ruffling my hair.
“Oh.” Lin was silent again, and then she spoke up. “Do you remember the time that we took your aunt’s cookie dough? She was really mad.”
“I remember. She called us cookie monsters.”
Despite myself, I was smiling a tiny smile.
“I’m really sorry I had to be your enemy.”
Wha…?
Before she could continue, Cricket decided to return from his chocolate hunt.
