Guilty Until Proven Innocent

As the club emptied out towards morning, Dotty began to toss fitfully in her half sleep, her eyelids twitching in an attempt to wake her from her nightmare. Michael sighed and wiped down the bar since he didn’t have much to do with the group slowly filtering out of the club.

He quickly soaced out. Until Johnnie walked through the door, casually waving to Michael as if they were friends. Mike tried hard not to snarl in reply and had to turn his head, pretending to busy himself with rearranging bottles on the shelf behind him.

“Where’s my girl,” Johnnie asked loudly with a slight slur in his voice. He squinted into the darkness at the back of the building and his searching eyes found Dorothy crashed in the booth.

“There she is,” Johnnie whispered as he approached her sleeping form. With strong arms he pulled her out of the seat up to his chest. When her eyes fluttered open she found herself kissing Johnnie.

Michael wasn’t sure where he went when he was out all night, but he knew he didn’t like it.
