The Juju Bracelet (2)
Moron, I thought as she handed over the bracelet. It’s Juju, and she parts with it just because I say I don’t believe her.
“Ok,” I agreed, shaking my head in a skeptical way. “But if he doesn’t ask me out then we’re going out for sundaes after school. Your treat.”
“You’re on!” Elise agreed. “See you tomorrow!”
She dashed off to catch her bus home. Idiot, I couldn’t help but think as I watched her go. I could hardly believe that this girl was my best friend. She comes across a powerful talisman and all she thinks of is how it can be used to get boys? She has no idea what I’m really going to wish for.
I decided to walk home. It would take longer than public transit, but I needed the time to think. Yes, Tommy would be a part of my plans, but not in the way Elise thought. Not by a long, long stretch. Not if this bracelet really is Juju.
I double-checked the pattern embossed into the metal. The secret lay of crossings my Nana had taught me long ago. Yes. It’s Juju.
I smiled.
