Time Suspended
“Would you care to dance?”
As I open my mouth to protest, I find myself rising from my chair and taking his hand. As I precede him to the dance floor, his hand slides to the small of my back. Again, I start to protest, but he spins me to face him and the protestation is cut short. I forgot how his smile can make me falter. As we begin to move to the music, my angst and frustration seem to melt away. The magic has begun.
With each step, we seem to float farther and farther off the ground. Our bodies are becoming fused together. Our breathing is in sync. We move as one.
As the music begins to wind down, we slowly descend to earth once more. Space grows between us. The music stops. He steps back from me slightly. He looks intently into my eyes.
At that moment, time seemed to stand still. No one moved. A woman next to us had her head thrown back in the midst of an appreciative belly laugh. I stare in wonder while my mind swirls with thoughts. I know what I want to do, but the question was would I do it?
