Early Bird Gets the Worm [Sweetest Story Challenge]

Lailah lay in her bed, unable to sleep. She couldn’t stop thinking about him.

She glanced at the clock. 4:02 A.M.

She lay there for two more hours, urging sleep to come. She eventually gave up.

Lailah raced down the stairs and ran the half-mile to his apartment complex.

The doorman looked at her oddly as she entered in her British-flag pajama bottoms and messy black hair.

As the elevator reached his floor, she rapped on his door loudly, knowing he wouldn’t be awake.

“Whoizzit…?” came a voice from the inside, disguised by a yawn.

“It’s Lailah, Jack, and I need to talk to you.”

The door opened slowly, revealing his disheveled blonde hair and his tired blue eyes.

“Jack, let me just say it. I love you. Please, tell me you love me a fraction of how I feel about you. Long story short, I can’t live the rest of my life without you.”

He was quiet for a very long time, just staring at her. As she began to leave brokenhearted, he said, “Finally.”

With that, they fell into each other’s arms.
