Bleeding Hearts
Paintbushes caress a colored canvas,
painting our story, that has only just began.
Your hand grasps mine suddenly, as you whisper “We’re never alone.”
Time passes. alternating fast and slow.
The headline of today’s story, tomorrow’s ghost.
One racing heartbeat, an adrenaline rush,
Your thumb traces my cheek, eliminating reason with a slight touch.
We gaze at the future, images filling our view.
Opportunity and fate beckoning, enticing us to move.
But as you kiss my shoulder, you make it hard to breathe.
leaving no room for thought, no desire, nor need.
My eyes alight, looking into yours, drunken in the moment,
Opportunity loses light, the colors to my paint you hold within your heart.
Ignoring the headline, blaring inevitability. We dance in the starlight.
Following wherever our hearts take us, despite walking upon the road of fools.
You hold my dreams even as you hold me as tightly.
We know the end is coming, we can see it in the Sunrise.
“we’re all just bleeding hearts”, you say.
