Waiting in Silence
It reigned an absolute silence over the land. A stifling silence, the kind that seemed to envelope everything with its pressing weight. No one, no thing dared to make a sound for fear it would conclude in grave consequences. It seemed unnatural to break this silence, though the silence itself was unnatural.
The people were waiting. They knew it was coming, but they did not know when.
They day it did come, a veil of oppressing mist came to rest upon everything like a heavy down blanket. The noise started slowly, first a distant rumbling, growing ever closer. The buildings shook as the silence was finally broken by the screeching of the train’s heavy breaks. The train came to a stop at the station, looming with its promise of dark news from the people within. The silence was over, but what was to come would by far surpass the dreadful wait.
