“I don’t know, honey,” Blaire replied honestly, although she wanted to say : “I couldn’t care less about what happened to that excuse of a mother!

“I’m sure it’ll all be fine,” Anastasia chirped, looking completely content. “This is sort of like that show, LOST .”

“Your mother lets you watch LOST ?” Tray asked incredulously, gray eyes wide.

“Mama lets me do lots of things,” Anastasia shrugged, her sentence possessing intelligence and indifference someone of her age should not have.

“Well, there’s no TV here, that’s for sure,” Blaire muttered. “Are you hungry?”

“Yeah!” Anastasia said, nodding vigorously.

“Okay…but fruit’s on the menu,” Blaire said. “For now,” she added shortly afterward.

“What do you mean : ‘for now’? You’re not implying that we’ll have to run around in loincloths and hunt wild boar?” Tray told her, mortified.

“Minus the loincloths,” Blaire said, frowning. “But yeah, if we stay here long enough, we will hunt.”

“We have to. You don’t want to see what protein deficiency can do.”
