Probably Should Talk

I tried to casually hide behind Jason but he turned around to look at me. “What are you doing?â€? he asked. He was smiling but his eyes looked concerned.

“N … nothing.â€? I croaked. I was ecstatic my voice wasn’t exposing the tears that were about to start flowing. Okay, so maybe it was.

Jason’s smile faded and he held my face in his hands. “Allie? What’s wrong?â€?

My eyes drifted over Jason’s shoulder and he turned around to see Collin still staring at us. I was hoping he thought I was someone else but Collin started walking toward me.

“Oh my god, it’s him, isn’t it?â€? He let go of my face and glanced again but it was too obvious.

“No.â€? I lied, about to run away but Jason grabbed my arm.

“Oh no. You’ve got to talk to him.â€?

“Who are you, my mom?â€? I tried to pull away but he was too strong and he turned me around to face Collin.

“I really think you should talk before I destroy his face.â€? Those words made me feel a little better but not much. I felt Jason’s arms leave me and he was gone. Dammit.
