I won't let you Fall

Nathaniel found it nearly impossible to speak, and had to strain himself just to make any sound at all.
“Who are you?”
She smiled softly, and touched his knee when she saw him trying to sit up.
“Do not stir, Nathaniel. You must rest. I’m your mother.”
He did as he was told and relaxed. He looked into the woman’s blue-white eyes which seemed to glow with compassion.
“You’re not my mom…” Nathaniel finally said, but the woman held up one pale finger.
“I’m everyone’s mother, Nathaniel. I am Mary.”
“Ok, Mary… where am I?”
“That doesn’t matter.”
“Why not?”
“Because, your feelings are all that matter here, Nathaniel.”
She stretched out her hand towards Nathaniel, and he suddenly felt frightened.
“Stay away.” he said, moving back a little bit.
She stopped for a second, and a warm smile lit up her face.
“You don’t have to be afraid, Nathaniel… I won’t hurt you, and I won’t let you fall… I promise.”
He gazed into her glowing eyes, and slowly reached out toward her hand.
