Stranger Than Fiction (or not) Challenge
In “A Case of Identity,” Sherlock Holmes says: “Life is infinitely stranger than anything which the mind of man could invent. We should not dare to concieve the things which are really mere commonplaces of existence. If we could fly out of that window hand in hand, hover over this great city, gently remove the roofs, & peep in at the queer things which are going on, ...the wonderful chains of events,... leading to the most outre results, it would make all fiction with its conventionalities and foreseen conclusions most stale and unprofitable.”
Well! What do you, my fellow writers, who feed our souls on the bread & butter of the musings of our brains, think of these words? Is life really stranger than fiction, or not?
So, your challenge is: If you agree that life is stranger, write of one of your (or a friend/family member’s) strangest real-life experiences. If you think fiction is stranger, dish us something that could happen only in fiction.
Deadline: Sept. 22.
Good luck!
