Close Your Eyes Blue
I regained conciousness with a throbbing headache and an intense pain in my right arm. I couldn’t remember what had happened, I was completely disoriented. I blinked open my eyes, only to wish I hadn’t done so.
The events came rushing back to me. The climb, the fall, hitting against the rock wall and blacking out. I scanned the cliff frantically, looking for James. I saw him feet below me, desperately trying to saw through his rope with a serrated pocket knife.
“What the hell are you doing?! Without that rope you’re going to die!”
“The safety hook came loose Blue, there’s only one hook keeping the both of us up. And it’s not going to hold much longer.” I looked up at the hook, seeing that it was already partly dislodged.
“Someone will find us, it’ll be fine! We’ll be fine. Just wait.” I started choking with sobs, knowing that that wasn’t true.
“Close your eyes, Blue. You are not going to die, I will not let you die.”
I felt the rope snap below me, followed by a sharp intake of breath.
