A Sympathetic in Cell Block G (jailbird challenge)

I was sent to Wade Women’s Prison last week. I’m not sure how long I’ll be here. This is my third one in 2 years.

I walked down the hall to the library. It was one of my favorite places. It was quiet. Well, mostly quiet.

Curly Sue and Patty were talking softly. They shared everything, secrets, deodorant, a cell. Curly Sue was completely bald, unusual for a woman. She didn’t mind the nickname if you were friendly, and by that I mean if you brought her smokes. Patty was a very butch lady. She had biceps, triceps, and shoulders to shame most men. She had a short spiky hairstyle. She was responsible for maintaining both ladies’ unique hair needs.

“Hey Curly Sue, got a delivery.” I sat beside her at the library table and passed her some smokes under my armpit to block the camera. She pretended to slap my back and grabbed them.

“You on duty tonight?” she whispered.
“Yeah.”
“2 AM.”
I got the message.
By 2 AM I was nowhere near cell block G as two inmates made a run for it.
I’d be discharged as a guard tomorrow.
