how to save a life

“No one could have seen it coming.” She said, looking down at her feet.

The policeman scribbled something down at his clip board and looked up at the obviously distressed teenager.

"There was nothing you could have done?"

She felt an immense pang of intense guilt. “I-no- maybe-”

The police stared at her and said, “You could have.”

Tears dripped down her face. “I could have-”

The police raised his voice noticabley “You could have. But you didn’t. Why?”

She was loosing the little cool she had left.

“I…I don’t know.” she whispered.

“Yes, yes you do.”

“I didn’t know how to save a life.”
