Cartoon Nostalgia Is Not For Kids! (Nostalgia challlenge)
I was watching them for nostalgia’s sake. I loved them as a child. There was something whimsical, wholesome, and fantastic about them.
I gathered my children. “This was one of Mommy’s favorite cartoons when she was a girl!” I exclaim, hoping my enthusiasm alone will sell the program and capture their undivided attention.
The theme song begins and we catch our first glimpse of bouncing, clothed, multi-colored bears as they demonstrate their many adventures with dragons, dark-clothed villains, and human friends.
I sing along, playing up the extreme joy I feel for my children, who look at me and smile. They are probably thinking, “Mommy’s lost it!”
The cartoon begins. It holds my attention more now as an adult, since I can fully grasp the vocabulary and predict the story line.
The kids took off after about five minutes. they were not fooled by the 2-D animation. It wasn’t their type of ‘high adventure that’s beyond compare..’
So I watched the Gummi Bears alone. And it made me smile!
