Office Hours

“I do not understand why I must waste my time with the study of such insignificant beasts.”

“Humanity, although strange, is hardly insignificant. Remember that our ancestors were human once, too. Study them, and you learn about our own nature.”

“If you insist. I find these carbon-based creatures of meat and blood completely disgusting.”

“Do you want to pass this class or not?”

“Very well, I shall do as you ask.”

“That’s better. Have you decided what you want to study? Humor might not be a bad idea.”

“I believe that I shall begin my study with the subject of love.”

“Why love?”

“Because, for something as crass as love, it seems to have an inordinate importance among humans. I plan to demonstrate that love is nothing more than chemical impulses based on evolutionary directives to create the highest chance for a certain set of genes to survive into the future.”

The teacher sighed. “It would be better for you if you’d decided to start your studies with humor, instead,” she said, sadly.
