Humiliation
“Please state your name.”
“James Compostela.”
“Where do you currently live?”
“Why? Do you not have that? I don’t understand why I need to give you that information.”
“What is your address?”
“If you don’t already have it, I am not going to give it to you.”
“You’re being evasive, and it makes me think you have something to hide. We can just go back and talk to the judge if you prefer, then. Where are you living?”
“Fine. The address is [redacted] Creyt St. [redacted].”
“Are you working? Do you have a job?”
“No.”
“Do you have a bank account?”
“Yes.”
“What bank?”
“What does it matter? It’s empty.”
“Do you own anything worth more than $200?”
“No.”
“What are you carrying on your person?”
“Cigarettes, keys, wallet. $50 in cash. A note from my ex-girlfriend. Some gas receipts. A copy of the Constitution.”
“Empty your pockets and take all your clothes off. The bailiff will assist you if you do not comply.”
“I’m sure he will.”
“You have one phone call and ten minutes. You will be monitored.”
