Alive part 18

I chuckled at the sight of the fractured ring pieces. Instead of frustration, the blood flowing from my knuckles brought the corner of my lips higher. My hand swept across the thigh of my pants trying to erase the red liquid from my skin.
The doorknob twisted, turned and clicked angrily as the lock kept them from entering.
Twist, Turn, Click.
Twist, Turn, Click.
Bang.
Bang.
Clearly, they wanted entry. I couldn’t even remember what time I had first come to the gas station.
I lifted myself from the ground which would hopefully be the last time.
Picking up each bloody piece of broken ring, I dropped the handfull into the sink.
My eyes drifted again to the window and my body followed.
I observantly sat on the edge of the windowsill.
Ready to finally make my escape.
My spine trembled.
My eyelashes fluttered.
I used what upper arm strength I had to throw myself away from the window, preventing me from hitting the untrustworthy rocks below.
Needing to use my fingertips to keep me steady, I was back on my feet.
