He shook his head. “No no, Alex, thank you. It’s hard to find good help for a church these days. Not many young people any more, and most of the willing volunteers are well past the time they should be climbing ladders to change light bulbs.” Patting me on the back, he smiled. “Now I know you got quite a trek home, and it’s Tuesday, isn’t it? You said your mother makes chowder on Tuesday, didn’t you?”
“That’s right!” I exclaimed, clapping my forehead. “I near forgot! Thank you Reverend!” I trotted down the aisle. “I’ll be here after school, sir, count on me being here!”
He chuckled. “I always do.”
