Daddy Dearest
The song ends, and all of the angels begin to leave. Each spread their wings and ascend through the ceiling, leaving me staring after them.
Their illumination went with them, and now I am entombed in the church, alone with nothing but a few candles around the alter. At least, so I thought.
The was movement there, behind the alter. My eyes drew to the motion, and I stare eagerly to see what might be.
“Hello?” I call out. “Is there anybody over there?” there is no reply, but the movement did stop. I hasten out of the pew and down the center isle. I must find out who is there.
My foot steps reverberate around me, echoing softer and softer, giving me a feeling of foreboding. Though I’ve gotten closer to the alter, I can’t see the figure any better.
“Who is there? Please help me.” I shout to them. I make it to the alter, and can finally see who is there.
“Father, please help me.”
“You seem lost upon your ways, why are you here?” He whispers.
The thought leaps out of my mouth, “To find out what happened.”
