Hadron Incident: The Meeting

Vahl took the request to Administrator Kahnon.
“Absolutely not!” Kahnon shook his massive head, “To disturb the Syndicate with a matter so trivial as this would be folly!”
“Begging your pardon, sir,” Vahl said, “I would call this anything BUT trivial! We’re facing an inundation of shortlings, the likes of which, we have never seen. They are not of this place. Perhaps Fabien Trell can help,”
Kahnon spun on Vahl, “Fabien Trell would be furious,”
Vahl was taken aback by the Administrator’s reaction, “I fail to understand your hesitation. We should not be expected to manage them. They do not eat what we eat. They cannot work in the rains. We can not be responsible for them.”
Kahnon’s large black eyes narrowed, “My dear, Vahl, on that, you cannot be more correct. WE will not be responsible for them; you will be,” Kahnon concluded.
“WHAT?!” Vahl was outraged.
“You wish to see them in the dome city, and so you shall take them,”
“I am of the rank to speak with…”
“Consider yourself promoted to Liason, Vahl.”
