Asking HIM For the Truth
I didn’t expect him to. I don’t think his friends knew he had asked me to the dance, so my coming over to his table must have put him in an awkward position. He’d have to explain me to his friends now.
I was hoping he would tell them the truth and not just some story.
I went back to my lunch, but I wasn’t hungry anymore.
There was a tap on my shoulder. One of my friends, Amber, always did that, so I turned, expecting her, and to my surprise saw Cam!
“Oh! Cam! Sorry to have bothered you in front of your friends, I wasn’t thinking.”
“Beth.” I loved how he said my name! My heart melted and I hoped his next words were just as lovely.
“I told them we were friends. I’m not ready to tell them about the dance yet, okay?”
“Okay, just…”
“What?”
“Don’t lie. I have no respect for liars. Either tell them the truth when you do tell them, or I’ll go to the dance alone.” I averted my eyes. I couldn’t believe I just gave him an ultimatum! I could lose him!
“Okay.”
Then he left. I held my breath, waiting.
