Alive part 21
I cautiously sat in the seat in front of the old man.
His smile was so generous and hopeful.
I wondered if he had a home or someone who loved him.
“Why are you here?” he finally questioned.
A smile dug at the sides of my lips as I turned around.
“I’m just going for a ride,” I said innocently.
I was transparent, he knew my intentions.
His smile grew wider, “You should be at home cooking dinner for your Momma.”
The portion of his face I could see was just barely his lips.
He moistened them to speak again, “She needs you there with her.”
My soul growled at him deep within.
Externally, I could only force a deep gulp to stab at the back of my throat.
“Where are you going?”
His body bounced as he chuckled at my interrogating.
I held back the urge to join him.
He made me feel like a little girl trying to explain why the sky is blue.
I refused to show any sign of weakness that was building behind my weak eyes.
“I’m going where ever this bus takes me” He finally answered.
I turned back around, “Well me too.”
