Remembering Hospital Pudding

Angela carefully began explaining everything to Lambecky, as he sighed and shook his head at random intervals. I avoided eye-contact with everything and everyone, fidgeting uneasily and hoping Drew would come out soon. Finally, Angela finished explaining and Lambecky sighed again, “Ok, I understand. And seeing as she’s being taken off life support tommorrow morning, I suppose he deserves a chance to say goodbye. Is he in there now?”
He looked at me as he asked this. I nodded. “I figured he’d want some time alone,” my voice was barely a whisper.
Angela smiled comfortingly and wrapped an arm around my shoulders, “C’mon, Paige. We still have that super-nasty hospital pudding you love so much. You gotta be hungry from that flight.”
Suddenly, the door to Cynthia’s room opened and Drew walked out. His eyes briefly met mine, and then he looked away, walking quickly toward the elevator. “Drew?” I hurried after him, barely sliding through the elevator doors before they shut. They did, and then we were alone.
