Sunflowers

She sat there in the field of sunflowers, her white cotton dress sprawled around her, wrinkled. Tears were streaming down her face and she looked up into the sun, wishing it to make her blind so she wouldn’t have to see sorrow or pain ever again.
She thought of the stories her mother told her as a young girl, to make her happy when she was sad, stories of fantasy worlds with treegnomes and unicorns and faeries… none of that could cheer her because with those stories came a female, a princess or tree nymph, mermaid or enchantress and she would always fall in love with a male.
Any other day she would have laughed because she would remember when her mother wanted her to support homosexuality so she would have stories like that as well… but remembering her beautiful mother made the tears fall harder. Two people she loved were gone.
Until she heard footsteps and sunflowers moving with no breeze masculine arms grabbed her followed by
I love you.
