The Dancer

Everyone said she was poor. Dirt poor.

They said she “didn’t have a pot to piss in, nor a window to throw it out of.”

Everyone said that she’d slept in every park you could think of. That she’d never see a 20 dollar bill.

Then one day, she danced. The folds of her skirt unfurled, and money poured from it.

And everyone? Well, they just stared, as the money fell across their feet.

She threw back her head, laughed, and shut them up forever.
