Residing Dreams (Chapter 203)

I trembled now more than ever, and I felt like I would collapse as well. I tried to regain my normal breathing. When he truly saw me, his eyes opened a bit more. “Essie,” he breathed. “Essie. Find a miracle and bring it to me. Please. Lord knows, I need one. Please,” he whispered, his breath coming out somewhat ragged. But at least he was breathing to begin with. “Casimir. You’re – you - why - how?” I stammered, as I had on the first night we met. “Essie, help me. I’m bleeding and I’ve been throwing up,” he cried, in a low voice. He was so young and so weak; too juvenile to see any of this. But then again, so was I. Yet I didn’t have to live through it like he did. “You’re a poor thing,” I whispered, stroking his hair in pity, but also in compassion. Casimir whimpered. “Help me,” he pleaded again. But I didn’t know what to do. Presently, I got a cloth and wet it. Casimir managed to clean the cuts. “I’m broken,” he observed. All I could do was stare at him sadly. That truth was plain to see without words.
