Female Bonding
I look in the mirror and barely recognize myself. My normally wavy hair is straight as a board, and my makeup is ten times more noticeable. My dress plunges dangerously low on my neckline. “Um… wow.”
“Wow is right! You look amazing. Shall we go?”
“Okay,” I mumble, transfixed by my own image.
Lily grabs my arm and drags me out to her car. The boys across the street wolf whistle at us as we get in. “I’ve created a monster,” she giggles. “Jack won’t stand a chance.”
We get on the main road with all the windows down and the music pumping. And it’s kind of intoxicating. “So, Kacey,” Lily calls over the music. “I know this is kind of weird, but I don’t actually have a lot of girlfriends.”
It throws me a loop. Sure she does. Lily is well liked enough… I think for a minute. Well liked, but not well known. “I don’t really, either,” I admit. “Maybe this is healthy for us.”
She looks over at me and beams, and I start to think that this is going somewhere good.
