Shadow

“No!” I screamed out loud.

“What?!” Peter asked, startled.

“My phone ran out of battery. We’re not going to get home. Oh my God, Peter, what are we going to do?!”

“Calm down,” Peter said. “See how worn down the grass is? People have to be closer than we think. And if we find people, we can call home.”

“But what if no one’s there? What if we keep walking and get lost? What if this time, we can’t find our way back? It’s already nine, and..,” I took a deep breath. “Peter, I’m scared.”

“Bernie, it’ll be fine. I’ve got some food in my backpack. You hungry?”

“Not really.” I was so nervous- food didn’t sound very good right now.

It was already getting dark, and I knew we wouldn’t have much time left until the sun went down completely. Everything would be black.

When it got that dark, I would really start to freak out.

~I’ve always been afraid of the dark, ever since I was little. I always knew one simple, fact: It’s easier for anything to hide when everything is covered by a shadow.~
