I like the interpretation of an abortion (I think) from the doctor’s P.O.V.; that’s not one I’ve seen a lot of. But, lines like The child never existed! are contrary to your prequel – the narrator held the child, therefore she did exist.
I had tried to stop the pregnancy to avert the disaster before anyone could be harmed. The sad truth was, I had succeeded. I don’t think so. I can think of a number of people who were hurt by this act.
