“How could you?!” She backed away from him.
“I had to!” he shouted. “After what I did to you, I had to make it right!”
“Make it right?!” she yelled. “Make it right?! I don’t believe this!”
“But I did it for you.” He reached for her. “I love…”
“Don’t!” She was furious. “Don’t you dare. If you did…”
“But I…”
“If. You. Did,” she continued, “you would have asked me what was going on. Did you think, even for a second, that I might have had a reason? That maybe I didn’t know how to tell you I…”
“You were leaving me.”
“No, you idiot! That I was pregnant!” she screamed.
“You…” He stopped. “You’re… You mean we…” He smiled. “We’re going to have a baby?!”
She smiled back. “No. We aren’t. I am.” She gently laid her hands on his face. “Like you said, Rick. ‘A life for a life.’” In one violent motion, she snapped his neck. He fell to the floor, dead.
As she walked out, she ran a hand over her stomach.
“Hush, little baby
Don’t say a word
Daddy’s gonna buy you
A mocking bird…“
