The Sad Lullaby
As the two strong shapes disappeared into the shadows, Mina stared at them in confusion.
She spun around, searching for a sign that this wasn’t true. “Please,” she cried, grasping at Thalia’s robe, “Can’t I just go home. I promise I’ll come back when you need me. Just let me go home!”
They all looked down on her silently,as Calliope placed a gentle hand on her shoulder, and replied softly, “No, child. You heard her. This is your home now.”
She sank down into the grass as the sad reality hit her, covering her eyes with small, rough hands. The sisters retreated to the fire, glancing back at the sad figure on the ground, unsure of what to do.
Polyhmnia approached her slowly, settling gracefully
on the ground beside her and rubbing her back, slowly singing the lullaby she had heard every night since she was a child. “Lennavanmo who is it swinging you to and fro/With a long low swing and a sweet low croon/loving words of a mother’s rune/Lennavanmo who is it swinging you to and fro.”
