With care inconsistent with the carnage before him, the sorcerer pulled the still-beating heart from his sacrifice. He placed it in the carefully prepared summoning circle before him. He quietly, and with careful inflection, recited the ancient spell.
The heart before him burst into flames, and a black portal opened within the circle. Two eyes appeared, glowing red in the darkness. “Who dares summon me?” the demonic being asked.
“I summon you, most foul lord!” the sorcerer proclaimed.
“Trevor? My god, man, it’s been simply ages! You really must call more often.“
“I know, but you know how it is. Work, work, work.”
“So, to what do I owe the pleasure?“
“Well, I wanted you to be the first to know. Olivia and I are engaged.”
“Engaged?!” came the reply. “Why that’s wonderful! Oh, Theresa will be just thrilled!”
“And we want you to be best man… er… demon… You know what I mean.”
“Well, of course, dear boy! But you must let me plan the bachelor party…“
They talked long into the night.
