Great little story. Quite like the flow and direction. And, of course, I agree with everyone in wanting to know what happens next (bonus for coming to the game late, since sequels appear to abound). By the by, what edition of the New Testament are you using? Significant difference in translation of the passages you quote between yours and mine (Vester & Company’s Red Letter Testament).
